Other Ways to Get Involved with SLRAA

Volunteer Opportunities

The heart of a volunteer is not measured in size, but by the depth of the commitment to make a difference in the lives of others. SLRAA offers the opportunity to serve God and the community through the sharing of one's time, talent and resources. Everyone has a talent, and there are many needs to be met and opportunities for involvement at SLRAA and in the faith community. Whether you’re interested in helping out at one-time events or looking for an on-going volunteer commitment, SLRAA has a wide variety of volunteer options. The possibilities to serve are varied and countless. If you enjoy cooking, you can help prepare food for a fiesta. If you are mechanically inclined, you can help maintain the San Lorenzo Ruiz & Scalabrini Center. If you have musical ability, you can sing at mass. If you are well-versed in spriritual doctrine, you can foster catechism. If you have a green thumb, you can you can help the Center's garden thrive. The opportunities are endless. In addition to what they give, volunteers may also gain new skills, meet new people, develop greater knowledge and understanding of their faith, and gain personal satisfaction-—all while making a difference.

San Lorenzo Ruiz in Thailand

San Lorenzo Ruiz and Companion Martyrs Catholic Church is the first church built by SLRAA outside America. The church was built on top of the mountain in Muhaki village under the Chiang Mai Diocese, Thailand. In building the San Lorenzo Ruiz Church, the SLRAA  was able to help bring the Good News to the village of Chiang Mai Diocese. It was also a great opportunity to honor Saint Lorenzo Ruiz, to be known among the Thai people. There were 400 Catholic converts since the church was built.

Bishop Joseph Sangval, D.D. officiated the first Mass and blessing of the church on April 19, 2009.

The building of the church was one of the projects of the SLRAA- Foreign Mission initiated by Casto Changho, Director, SLRAA-Foreign Mission.

The church is used for:

  1. A place of worship with space to hold more than 100 people.
  2. Center for community gatherings and other community function.
  3. Village Shelter during typhoons since the village houses are mostly made of bamboo and leaves.
  4. Welcoming center for visiting village leaders from other tribes.
  5. As showcase for the Catholic church to the mountain hill tribes and also to propagate the devotion to San Lorenzo Ruiz.
  6. Learning center to educate the village people about Christianity.
